Have you been contacted to provide a reference? References are an integral part of the employment screening process. Information provided allows employers to make informed decisions when hiring. Personal, Residency, Professional and Educational references can be chosen, further descriptions are listed below.
Educational Reference – Educational references provide verification for dates of attendance, majors and minor areas of study, degrees and the dates obtained, as well as honors received by the applicant.
Employment Reference – An employment reference is given by the personnel/human resources department and an immediate supervisor. Information includes dates of employment and job titles. Additional information including responsibilities, duties, performance, salary, re-hire eligibility, reason for leaving and other relevant information can be reported if available and permitted for release.
Personal Reference – This will provide valuable information concerning how others perceive the applicant. The reference will provide information concerning the applicant's integrity, conduct, reputation and overall image. Personal references should not be relatives or employers.
Professional Reference – A professional reference is given by the personnel/human resources department and an immediate supervisor. Information includes dates of employment and job titles. Additional information including responsibilities, duties, performance, salary, re-hire eligibility, reason for leaving and other relevant information can be reported if available and permitted for release.
Residency Reference – For the current landlord who will provide dates of residency, duration of lease, if proper notice was given, the monthly rent amount, if they paid as agreed, and if they are eligible to re-rent. Further information can be provided if available and permitted for release.
